Specifically Section 10-5. Nine-Hole Handicaps - Handicap Index (N).
We basically use this formula with the following exceptions: Since some of us won't have 10 scores prior to the League starting, we use the following table to determine how many scores to use for handicaps.
| Total Number of Scores |
Number of Scores used for Handicap |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 2 |
| 3 | 2 |
| 4 | 3 |
| 5 | 3 |
| 6 | 4 |
| 7 | 4 |
| 8 | 5 |
| 9 | 5 |
| 10 | 6 |
Differential = (GrossScore - Course Rating) * 113 / SlopeSay so far, your scores this year were 42, 43, 46, 39, 44, and 47For Desert Aire:
Course Rating = 68.3 for 18, and 34.15 for 9 holes.
Slope = 106You take your best Half + 1 scores and average out their differentials.
| Score | Differential |
| 42 | 8.37 |
| 43 | 9.34 |
| 39 | 5.17 |
| 44 | 10.50 |
Average differential = 8.37.
90% of 8.37 is 7.5 - This is your 9-Hole Handicap Index
You can then use this index to come up with your actual handicap for any course you play.
Example 1.
Let's say for example we want to figure out your
18-hole handicap for Spring Valley Lake (white tees).
The white tee Course rating and Slope there is 69.3
and 115 respectively.
